20 Year strategy for the arts needed in Burgess Hill

Lib Dems on Burgess Hill Town Council have been playing a full and active part in the 20 year strategic vision for the town. Investment in our town centre economy and investment in the town is vitally important.

But I believe that alongside this investment there needs to be a vision for the town that makes it a regional centre for the arts and culture.  This is why I believe that Lib Dems should commit to the following resolution:

“A Lib Dem run Town Council will roll out an arts and culture development plan to match the 20 year strategic vision”

We have a huge number of talented groups and individuals covering all the arts in Burgess Hill. I want to harness this talent alongside regional and national artists so that Burgess Hill is seen to be a market leading town for culture in Mid Sussex.

I would want to:

  • Set up a working party with individuals and groups across the town to create a co-ordinated plan to develop, promote and strengthen the town’s cultural life;

  • Consult widely with groups and individuals on the range of activities that should be developed;

  • Help to foster and encourage local talent;

  • Provide performance opportunities for local, regional and national artists to showcase their talent;

  • Create a festival culture in the town which can capture the attention of the 500,000 who live within range of Burgess Hill.

Iwant to ensure that Burgess Hill is a place where people will want to not only live in or invest in but also to come to visit for its range, strength and depth of its cultural life.
